Weight Loss & Nutrition

54% of dogs and 59% of cats in the United States are overweight or obese!

Just as we know exercise is important for us, it is equally important for your pet. Exercise helps to maintain a healthy weight, cardiovascular health and muscle strength. It can be difficult to exercise your pet during the cold winter months with snow, ice and rain, as well as when the summer heat is extreme.

You join a gym – your pet can receive supervised workouts here at Canine Rehab of New York. The exercise sessions are 45 minutes and may consist of strengthening exercises, endurance work and underwater treadmill.

The addition of a nutrition consult is an option. The diet your pet is on is not specifically tailored to your pet’s caloric needs. The recommended feeding instructions on the food bags are formulated for young active pets and may not be appropriate for your furry friend. We offer a comprehensive consultation to determine your pet’s needs and make diet recommendations.

We have noticed that many owners are not measuring their pet’s food intake and the total calories between diet and treats frequently exceeds their pet’s needs.

The benefits of maintaining a healthy lean weight include:

  • improved health
  • increased lifespan
  • delayed onset of chronic diseases
  • delayed onset and slowed progression of osteoarthritis
  • lower overall health costs
